Blue Fringe Literature Awards 2014

Lithgow/Upper Mountains PHAMS supports the Blue Fringe art and Literature Awards each year in the Blue Mountains. Team members recently attended the Awards Night on 14th May and celebrated the launch of this year’s book, titled “Celebrating Life”.

Around 70 people attended a gala evening at the historical Carrington Hotel in Katoomba. Volunteering in the role of Master of Ceremonies was Peer Support Worker, Richard McInerny. He brought his own special style and humour to an enthusiastic audience. Also along to support their clients were Support Workers Jon Mills and Megan Butler, who took the photos for the event.

Aftercare plays a key role in supporting these awards and each participant received an Aftercare showbag which included promotional material from a variety of local services, a certificate and a copy of the book.

Contributors to the book include PHAMS and HASI clients from Lithgow, Upper Blue Mountains and Katoomba, Vale St participants and members of the general community. This initiative is a valuable partnership between Aftercare, Vale Street, Blue Mountains Food Services and the Neighbourhood Centres of Blackheath, Katoomba and Springwood. Aftercare is also represented on the Blue Fringe Committee, which organises both the Literature and Arts awards each year.

Books can be purchased from local neighbourhood centres or from Lithgow/Upper Mountains office and are $15 each.

Both clients and committee are already planning for the Art Awards to be held during Mental Health Month in October!
