Last week the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released a report on the causes of death from 2011.
The figures on suicide were particularly grim:
– There were 2,273 deaths from suicide in Australia
– Australian males comprised 76% of all suicides
– For males aged 15-24 years suicide accounted for more than 1 in 4 deaths
The first chart below shows the disparity of figures between Australian males and females in relation to death as a result of suicide and the second chart indicates the high proportion of dealth as a result of suicide amongst 15-24 year old Australians.
